Meta's recommended feed image isn't 1080 x 1350 anymore. Meta's Ads Guide lists 1440 x 1800 px at 4:5 for Facebook Feed and 1440 x 2560 px at 9:16 for Stories and Reels. Same ratios, a third more width (78% more pixels), and plenty of Meta ad sizes cheat sheets still list the old numbers. We checked every spec below against Meta's own pages on October 25, 2026, and linked each one.

Images go up as JPG or PNG, video as MP4, MOV, or GIF. Meta's video spec asks for H.264 compression, square pixels, a fixed frame rate, progressive scan, and stereo AAC audio at 128 kbps or higher.

A note on Facebook Reels. Meta's Ads Guide lists a Facebook Reels placement, but its page returned "not found" under all three URL patterns we tried. Numbers in that row match Meta's Instagram Reels page and Shopify's Facebook ad sizes guide, which lists 1440 x 2560 at 9:16 for Reels. Check the placement preview in Ads Manager before you lock a Facebook Reels-only file.

Which 3 Meta ad sizes to make

Three files cover every placement in that table, so stop exporting one per placement.

Make thisPixelsCovers
4:5 vertical1440 x 1800 (1080 x 1350 is the same ratio)Facebook Feed, Instagram Feed images, Instagram Explore, Threads feed
9:16 full screen1440 x 2560 (or 1080 x 1920)Facebook and Instagram Stories, Reels, Messenger Stories, Instagram Feed video
1:1 squareAt least 1080 x 1080Carousel cards, Marketplace, In-Stream video, collection covers, Threads carousels

We worked that answer out from the recommended ratio on each Ads Guide page. Meta's separate aspect-ratio help article wouldn't load for us, so the mapping is ours, built from Meta's numbers.

What about 1.91:1 landscape (1200 x 628)? Instagram Feed still accepts it, with an allowed range from 400 x 500 to 191 x 100 on the Instagram Feed spec. No feed placement we checked recommends it, and a landscape image fills far less of a phone screen than a 4:5.

How to make the three files

Five steps, in the order that saves rework.

  1. Design the 9:16 first. It's the tallest canvas and the strictest safe zone, so a layout that survives 9:16 crops cleanly to 4:5 and 1:1. Keep the product and headline inside the middle band described in the safe-zone section below.
  2. Export at Meta's recommended pixels. 1440 x 2560 for 9:16, 1440 x 1800 for 4:5, 1080 x 1080 or larger for 1:1. Older 1080-wide exports still clear every minimum width in the table above.
  3. Check the ratio as well as the pixels. Instagram placements allow 1% aspect-ratio tolerance and Facebook Feed allows 3%. A file 2% off 4:5 runs in Facebook Feed and gets cropped or rejected on Instagram.
  4. Upload all three to the same ad. Ads Manager then serves the 4:5 to feeds, the 9:16 to Stories and Reels, and the 1:1 to carousels and Marketplace. Upload one file and Meta crops or extends it for the rest, which is what Advantage+ creative automates, with mixed results.
  5. Preview every placement before publishing. Look for a caption or button sitting on your price, the Reels failure covered below.

Facebook ad sizes

Facebook Feed has the loosest aspect-ratio tolerance (3%) and a 27-character headline, shorter than any other Meta placement except carousel cards (Ads Guide).

Sources: Meta Ads Guide pages for Feed image, Feed video, Stories image, Stories video, Marketplace, and In-Stream. Meta's In-Stream page adds that "video duration limit may vary by objective."

Facebook Feed images need at least 600 px of width and, at 4:5, 750 px of height, with a 3% aspect-ratio tolerance (Ads Guide).

Facebook now treats nearly all video as Reels. In June 2025 Meta said every video on Facebook would be shared as a Reel, with no length or format limits, TechCrunch reported. One more reason a 9:16 cut belongs in every video ad set.

Instagram ad sizes

Instagram splits feed images and feed video into different ratios, and that split catches people out.

Sources: Meta Ads Guide pages for Feed image, Feed video, Explore home, Stories image, Stories video, and Reels. Instagram placements cap hashtags at 30.

Reels primary text is 44 characters, not 125, because the caption sits over the video. And Meta lists Instagram Feed video at 9:16 while listing Facebook Feed video at 4:5. Running one video file across both feeds? Make it 4:5, Facebook Feed's recommended ratio, and check the Instagram Feed preview in Ads Manager before you publish.

For layouts that already work at 4:5, browse the Facebook static ad examples.

Messenger, Audience Network, and Threads sizes

All three reuse your feed and Stories files, but Threads crops differently.

Messenger Stories: 9:16, JPG or PNG, 30 MB max, at least 500 px wide, 125-character primary text, and a 40-character headline (Ads Guide). Its resolution line reads "at least 1080 x 1080," a square that contradicts the 9:16 ratio on the same page. Export 1080 x 1920 or 1440 x 2560 and you satisfy both.

Audience Network (native, banner, and interstitial): at least 398 x 208 px, 30 MB max, 125-character primary text, 40-character headline, and 30-character description (Ads Guide). Audience Network adapts your feed creative to each app's ad unit, so it rarely needs its own file.

Threads: On October 28, 2025, Meta raised the maximum height of single image and video ads in the Threads feed from 1:1 to 4:5, added video ads to the Marketing API, and added static 1:1 image carousels. Meta's Marketing API documentation sets the rules:

Threads formatAcceptedWhat Threads does
Single image1.91:1 to 9:16, at least 500 px wideCrops anything taller than 4:5 to 4:5, vertically centered
Video1.91:1 to 9:16Crops anything taller than 4:5 to 4:5, centered
Carousel image1.91:1 to 9:16Center-crops anything that isn't 1:1 to 1:1
Caption1,000 characters max, 80–160 recommendedDoesn't support hashtags or URLs in the caption

Your 4:5 feed file is the Threads file. Upload a 9:16 Story file and Threads cuts off its top and bottom.

Meta Stories and Reels safe zones

Safe zones decide whether the price and the product are visible or buried under the CTA button.

Meta's Ads Guide gives one safe-zone rule for Facebook Stories, Instagram Stories, and Instagram Reels: keep text, logos, and key visuals out of roughly the top 14%, the bottom 35%, and 6% on each side. Otherwise, per the Instagram Reels page, they may be covered by "the profile icon or call-to-action." Messenger Stories still carries the older, shallower rule: top 14% (250 px) and bottom 20% (340 px) (Ads Guide).

What those percentages leave you, in pixels:

CanvasTop clearBottom clearEach sideSafe area left
1080 x 1920 (14 / 35 / 6)269 px672 px65 pxabout 950 x 979 px

1080 x 1920, Messenger Stories (14 / 20)250 px340 pxnot specified1080 x 1330 px

We calculated the pixel values from Meta's percentages and rounded to the nearest pixel.

Top 14%: profile, close
Safe area
product, headline, offer
Bottom 35%: caption, CTA

Most templates put the price and the button in the bottom third. In Reels, Meta's own guidance reserves the bottom 35% for the caption and call to action. Move the offer up.

Meta ad text limits

Go over these and the copy hides behind "See more," which on Reels means after 44 characters.

PlacementPrimary textHeadlineDescription

Threads80–160 recommended, 1,000 maxn/an/a

Meta's Ads Guide labels these as text recommendations, so longer copy gets truncated, not rejected. Threads' 1,000-character cap is a hard limit: an ad with a longer caption won't deliver on Threads (Marketing API docs).

Meta video ad specs

One encoding spec covers every Meta video placement. Only the length limits change.

What changed in Meta ad specs since 2025

Five changes, each confirmed against a source.

  • Recommended resolution went up. Meta's Ads Guide now recommends 1440 x 1800 for 4:5 and 1440 x 2560 for 9:16. When we published our all-platform ad sizes guide in March 2026, the figures in wide circulation were 1080 x 1350 and 1080 x 1920. Both still fit the same ratios and clear the minimum widths.
  • Stories safe zone matches Reels. Facebook and Instagram Stories now use the same 14% / 35% / 6% guidance as Reels (Instagram Stories spec). Only Messenger Stories keeps the 250 px / 340 px rule.
  • Threads went to 4:5 and added video ads and static image carousels on October 28, 2025.
  • Threads ads reached all users. Meta opened Threads ads to all advertisers in April 2025 (Search Engine Land), then began delivering them to Threads users worldwide from the week of January 26, 2026 (PPC Land).
  • Facebook video became Reels in 2025, per TechCrunch.

Make all three Meta sizes without a designer

Knowing the Meta ad sizes is the easy part. Rebuilding one design three times, with the safe zones redone each time, is where small teams stall. AdDogs rebuilds a proven ad from the Facebook ad examples library around your product photo, in the ratio you pick, with the static ad generator. Each credit makes one ad in one aspect ratio. Basic ($12/mo) exports 1:1, 9:16, and 16:9. Pro and Ultimate include all 14 aspect-ratio options, 4:5 among them.

FAQ

What are the Meta ad sizes for 2026?

Meta's Ads Guide recommends 1440 x 1800 px (4:5) for Facebook and Instagram Feed and Explore, 1440 x 2560 px (9:16) for Stories and Reels, and at least 1080 x 1080 px (1:1) for carousel cards, Marketplace, and collection covers. Images can be up to 30 MB and videos up to 4 GB.

What are the 3 Meta ad sizes?

4:5 for feeds (1440 x 1800 or 1080 x 1350), 9:16 for Stories, Reels, and Messenger (1440 x 2560 or 1080 x 1920), and 1:1 for carousels, Marketplace, and In-Stream (at least 1080 x 1080). Those three ratios cover every placement Meta's Ads Guide lists for Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads.

What size is a Meta Reels ad?

9:16. Meta recommends 1440 x 2560 px, and 1080 x 1920 is the same ratio. Reels ads can run up to 15 minutes and 4 GB with 44 characters of primary text, and the minimum width is 250 px under 30 seconds or 500 px at 30 seconds and longer (Reels spec).

What are the Meta Stories ad specs?

9:16 at 1440 x 2560 px, as JPG or PNG up to 30 MB or MP4, MOV, or GIF up to 4 GB. Facebook Stories video runs 1 second to 3 minutes and splits into cards after 15 seconds, while Instagram Stories video runs up to 60 minutes. Primary text is 125 characters, and the safe zone is 14% top, 35% bottom, and 6% on each side (Ads Guide).

What is the 4:5 spec for Meta ads?

4:5 is a vertical rectangle, 4 units wide by 5 tall. Meta recommends 1440 x 1800 px, and 1080 x 1350 is the same ratio. It's the recommended ratio for Facebook Feed images and video, Instagram Feed images, and Instagram Explore, and the tallest ratio Threads shows without cropping.

Is 1200 x 627 a good Facebook ad size?

It's a 1.91:1 landscape size, and 1200 x 628 is the exact 1.91:1 version. Meta still accepts 1.91:1 in Instagram Feed and collection covers but recommends it for no feed placement, and on a phone it fills far less screen than 4:5. Keep it for Google display or LinkedIn, and make a 4:5 for Meta.

What is the 9:16 ad size in pixels?

1080 x 1920 px or, at Meta's current recommendation, 1440 x 2560 px. One 9:16 file runs on Facebook and Instagram Stories and Reels, Messenger Stories, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Snapchat. Our all-platform ad sizes guide has the specs for every non-Meta platform.
